Kyle’s Favourite: King Kong Stout
Liz’s Favourite: Bull’s Eye Australian Pale Ale
We didn’t technically visit the brewery but checked out the
tasting room while we were in Auburn. The lady serving us was pleasant and the
décor was rather nice too with there produce and posters of the beer labels
displayed around the wooden furnished bar mixed in with old school loungers and
sofas. Again, this place was reasonably priced with a $10 tasting platter with
a choice of 4 drinks.
We tried the Welease Wodger Wheat Summer Beer, Bull’s Eye
Australian Pale Ale, Monkey’s Uncle Red Ale, King Kong Stout and the Insider
grape cider thing???! The Welease Wodger was verging on a mild dubbel taste
being pretty sweet and bananary in comparison to others we have tried recently.
The Bull’s Eye was a great Australian Pale Ale- we are liking galaxy hops! It
had a good lingering bitterness. Monkey’s Uncle was a funny one… It was meant to
have caramel/ toffee-apple taste but oddly enough we tasted smokiness almost
like you get with lapsang souchong - Weird! The King Kong was a very good
stout, Kyle got dark toffee flavours while Liz got burnt toast (and yes she
likes overdone toast…). It is up there as one of the best stouts we have had.
The Insider used to be called a cider but apparently someone complained because
it is made with grapes… If you have tried moscato then combine it with the
alcohol content of a cider then you are pretty much there. Try it sparingly
because it was rather sweet for us.
It does start to feel like we are becoming the beer snobs of
the world...
