Everything was going great and we were ready to move on from Auburn.
This was all until we were a few kilometres away from the caravan park, the battery
light came on AND the tachometer stopped working. Oh the joy, next the dual
battery switch LED started phasing in and out- the main battery wasn’t getting
charged by the alternator. DAMN IT.
Pulling into the caravan park there was a delightful smell
of something electrical burning. It looked like the alternator had gone but
with it being a Sunday (and a long weekend) we couldn’t do a lot about it. Kyle decided to call MR
Automotive (the Brisbane Land Rover Specialist that we use) on Monday to have a chat to
them and yes it looked like the alternator had gone.
| Bye bye Margaret... |
Next point of call was getting our RACQ breakdown cover in
action. After a mechanic came out to confirm for RACQ that it was le broken the
car was put up on to a joyous flatbed and replaced with this…

One of Australia’s iconic cars: the Ford Falcon. It turned out the driver’s wing mirror was hanging off so he taped it back on with some electrical tape, the roof lining hung down like a Bedouin tent and one of the nuts for the front wheel was missing… Nice! Not to mention that we were told that the car was dirty, that was not an understatement. All of our work utes were cleaner than this and that is saying something! Apparently, it was the only rental car available and was due to be fixed after the public holiday- just bad luck. The good side of it, at least we had a way of getting around as we had exhausted wandering around Auburn for this time around.
We did go and grab a condolence meal from a local café and a
snack from Sugar Rush (the truffle place) to brighten up our day. The Chocolate
Frappuccino is a must for a chocolate lover at Sugar Rush.
