To sum up there are 3 main aims for our trip:
- Scenery
- Rocks
- BEER!!!
There is no specific plan as such but the general gist is to
see as much of the Australian outback and coast as we can in about a year.
We shall set off from Brisbane and head clockwise around
Australia hugging the coast through NSW, cutting through the Victorian High Country
and then following close to the sea through SA, WA and NT until we get to Cape
York in QLD. From here, we will head inland to the Simpson Desert and then down
to Tasmania before heading back up the east coast back to Brisbane.
There are a few musts: the geographical extremes of mainland
Australia (North, South, East and West), the highest and lowest points, the
Simpson Desert, Tasmania along with swimming with whale sharks around Exmouth.
Ok so why rocks… we are both Geologists and thought we
should brush out the cobwebs to learn a bit more about the geology of
Australia. To what extent we will do this we don’t know but we shall give it a
bash anyway. Don’t worry we are not going to get technical!
Last but definitely not least BEER! When we first came out
here we tried the usuals: XXXX, VB, the list goes on. Coming from the UK's rich ales of every description we were a little underwhelmed with Aussie beers. Now as the microbreweries
have become more popular our taste buds have been awakened to Australian craft
beers. So breweries that we stumble on
along our route will be a must.
Sounds like a plan!
