Walpole

Campground: Crystal Springs in D’Entrecasteaux NP
Facilities: Toilet, Fire-pits, Bins, Non-potable water.
Good stuff: Lovely setting and good facilities. The fire pits even have benches around them.
Not so good stuff: It is a great hub for places in the area but not much to do right by the campground.
Price: $7.50 per adult

Walpole is again a hub for the local NPs in the area with your general commodities of a small town including an IGA, bakery, butcher etc. From here you can check out many of the NP and we did just that!

We failed again and arrived at the Tourist Information centre too early, so we headed on the short 2km in the town of Walpole. This has lots of little signs mainly about the vegetation and a little on the history of the area which is written in a style to amuse kids. A good way to entertain yourself whilst waiting for places to open…

Our first stop after Walpole was the Tree Top Walk, not willing to spend the $15 fee we just wandered around the area instead and checked out the discovery centre. To be honest the highlight was finally finding a book on the geology of Western Australia’s National Parks. It has been something that we have been searching for a while but hadn’t found it. Other stop off spots were Peaceful Bay and Conspicuous Beach. Again, both great on a summers day and have some lovely views.

We drove along from Conspicuous Beach with the intention of checking out more places in the area. However, Margaret had other ideas… The tachometer dropped off again! Do we ever have a break?! We pulled back into Walpole again so Kyle could give the car a running over. It wasn’t as impressive a display as the last time but it looked like the alternator had gone AGAIN! Quite impressive considering we have done less than 5000km since the previous breakdown and prior to that the alternator had been replaced within the last 20000km, since we have owned the vehicle. We both had some serious “should we carry on” if this is going to keep happening? But it is way too early to stop now and it could have just been a dodgy alternator. Fingers crossed! The only thing is that now we have to backtrack and head to Redmond near Albany to get it checked over which was all sorted out by the mechanic who replaced the alternator in Clare, SA- a bit of a mouthful. We are definitely getting use of each states road assistance at the moment… 3 states down only 2 states and 2 territories to go.
